I hope after reading this will stop people talking about Bafana bafana qualifying through back door. FIFA Law that will apply on Ethopia Case: Law 17 (3) in the Fifa Disciplinary Code which states: “If a player receives a caution in two separate matches of the same Fifa competition, he is automatically suspended from the next match in that competition.” Thus, if found guilty, Ethiopia could be docked the three points earned from that match, allowing Bafana a slim chance to still progress to the third qualifying round for the World Cup. However, in a new development, the same player was included in the squad that faced Bafana on Sunday. Having not yet served his suspension, Beyene might be seen as ineligible for this encounter as well, meaning Ethiopia could lose another three points, which would change the entire scenario of the group. Should Ethiopia lose six points, Bafana would top the group on 11 points, while Ethiopia and Botswana would have seven, neither able to catch up in the last round in September, sealing Bafana’s progress to the next qualifying round. Pending Fifa’s on-going investigation, Gordon’s men may still have a lifeline.
