I hope no one takes offense by what Im about to say... Of course my activist page was banned yesterday so I could not say what I wanted before but I am saying it now. 1) I was not impressed by those who sat on these expensive a$$ cars at the parade yesterday. Unless youre unable to walk the march due to health reasons, esp when youre a public figure, you should be out there marching, interacting w/the crowd and putting in real time as a genuine person. Engaging the crowd is EVERYTHING in my perspective. If youre too good to get your butt up off the car and address the people on foot & personally, then maybe the MLK Parade isnt for you. My dear friend, Carlos who walks with a cane, walked the entire march even though he probably should have stayed on the sidelines. He kept up and made it through b/c engaging the crowd is what it is about. 2) I did not approve of it last year nor did I approve of it this year: Yesterday there were black children in 1800s clothing and wearing shackles. Behind them was a bearded white man carrying his whip acting as Master which is COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL to the MLK Day Parade. GET THIS!!! MLK and SLAVERY ARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT SETTINGS! Roughly 100-years apart. MLK was all about CIVIL RIGHTS! Whomever thought this was a creative idea, shame on you! Last year this woman named Emily whom I did not care for her ways to try & hijack Occupy Houston, did the very same thing. Brought some black children with her, again hijacked Occupy Houstons position in the marching line then had the nerve to announce, Im here and I brought my slaves! Needless to say, weve not seen her since that day and I think that anyone who presents this to the MLK Parade is just stupid. This includes those who participated in the act itself. Otherwise the parade itself was beautiful. I was taken back several times by the children with their parents. I saw so much excitement and hope in their eyes. Thats our future. I made sure to make eye to eye contact, smile and wave at the majority of the children as I walked by. Kids just wanted to be noticed and I was so lucky to engage the children. We received a lot of support as we have the last two years. Thank you Michael for the invitation and all your hard work on this years parade! Thank you Remington for coming up with the great idea of having the sign making party! Thank you to everyone who made the parade another great experience!
