I hope people realise that Islam is, in essence, a very peaceful and loving religion, and like most cultures/religions/beliefs it can be misinterpreted by others who form extremist views. I have met many Muslims in my life and I can tell you with confidence that the majority are loving and caring intellectual individuals, and only a few are hateful and violent. Just like in any culture. Unfortunately the media loves these sorts of situations and fear mongering and subsequently worsen it tenfold. I do not agree in what is happening around the world in terms of terrorism and extremism, it causes society to look down on muslims and stereotype the majority over the acts of a few. Please form judgement based on the individuals you are interacting with and not stereotypes/the extremist acts of a few.
