I hope you had a great fourth....now that it is over I can complain -- every commemoration I saw was support our troops -- of course I support our troops (best support is ending wars of choice and bringing them home of course out of harms way) but you look back even up till the early sixties -- and way back to the founding of this country -- and the Fourth was supposed to be a CIVIC not MARTIAL holiday celebrating -- freedom -- and independence. Do we even remember that it used to be called Independence Day? There used to be speeches about the founders -- the constitution -- the bill of rights. Now I fear our kids are growing up thinking America and Patriotism just equal war and the military -- we are supposed to be celebrating what our founding documents call the blessings of freedom... I fear that the erasure of this kind of celebration is part of the erasure of civics from schools -- so kids will grow up not even knowing what America really means....
