I include public broadcasters in Canada, the CBC and TVO; in the USA, WNED PBS (Buffalo-Toronto) and I contribute to them. They not-for-profit corporations that act as the fourth or fifth estate providing news, idea shows and analysis outside of the mainstream and particular in these modern times, against the grain of corporate interests and conspicuous consumption. It is for that reason that the Harper government has been slicing away at their income in order to silence them like they have silenced so many other offices and professions that safeguard or democracy. Since the Harper government represents the interests of big corporations, mainly oil billionaires, they are working towards developing US as an uneducated group of disparate people who do not know where our political interests lie. Common Sense is the mantra that they use ... recall the Mike Harris common sense revolution. This was a revolution from the top that we have yet to recuperate from nor will we unless workers and working class peoples come to have solidarity with each other and recognize that their interests are not those of the elite class. For that, we must develop good sense as opposed to common sense. To quote Antonio Gramsci, a neo-Marxist, the common sense of the masses is the political agenda of the elite.
