I indicated I’d have more to say after some rest and BOY DO I. - TopicsExpress

I indicated I’d have more to say after some rest and BOY DO I. Strap yourself in because I’m about to demonstrate my notorious long-windedness. I had a personal goal to see Elegy hit 100 people on site this season, I expected we might make that mark in October, but we blew it out of the water after this event in August with no sign of slowing down. In offering congratulations people have asked me ‘So, how does it feel?!’ The truth is I don’t really know, three days later I’m still kind of stunned. The word that keeps springing to mind though is ‘grateful’. This is a big deal for me but I feel like I am generally superfluous to Elegy’s successes, both in quality and quantity. This is an auspicious landmark for Elegy, but I’m just one of… well… a hundred people who got us there. I think a few ‘Thank You’s are in order. Elegy runs on the back of volunteers, people who contribute to the game in more ways than I can count for really no better reason than a love for this thing they share with you. There’s too many of you to name without leaving someone out, people who’ve donated time, talent or resources towards the game. People who’ve bigged us up at conventions, done design work for us, made us costuming or props, volunteered to be Storytellers or driven car loads of people to and from game. What we do would be impossible without your eagerness and generosity. I can not thank you enough. I must single out Victoria, our Ops Maven and Stage Manager, who has been a constant, steady and competent presence at game and outside of it, tirelessly keeping us on the rails. Vicki you are the fairy-godmother of our game. Thank you. I need to thank my fellow directors: Carly, Ryan and yes, even Eric. However much you think they might do to keep this game running, I guarantee that they do at least twice that. The Directors demonstrate a dedication to Elegy and it’s players that borders on alarming. I need to give special thanks to Betty la Bomba, whom this whole thing began with. Betty, thank you for sharing a mad scheme, thank you for keeping the faith. Ultimately though, the people to whom I most need to show gratitude are our players. We asked ‘How good can a LARP be?’ you said “I’ll show you” and committed yourselves to a LARP that is immersive and edgy, to a community that is ambitious and safe. I want to thank you for giving me the chance to help you with what you’ve made, with your game. It’s you who breath what is vital and unique into Elegy. I’m quoting Betty when I say: I can build a ship. I know how to lay a keel or raise a mast… but I can’t make it move. It is you that fills the sails. I suppose I do know one other thing. That as proud as I am of Elegy, this is just the beginning. That I can promise: you ain’t seen nothing yet. To all of you, from the bottom of my heart, one more time I say Thank You. I’ll see you at the End of the World, I want you to show me what comes next.
