I invited a friend over for dinner as we stay close by and also as we know each other for a while and it has been sometime I shifted to Mumbai. Hence, I called him over for dinner after confirming that would he would make it for sure. He asked me what was I going to prepare. I told him I was going to make palak dal (which is one of the most liked by my friends who tasted my food ;) ) and some veggies. He was okay with the idea and confirmed that he would see me in half hour. I finally cooked everything and waited for him. It was almost 11:00 pm, he didnt turn up. I called him, he said that he will get back. Again I followed up with him at 12:00 and I surprisingly get this response for some palak dal and fried vegetables, I cant come now.... it is not chicken or something that I would be excited to eat. This incident really shook me. My parents may not be able to read and write, but they taught me values. I was always taught by my parents to respect food. There are many people who struggle even to get one course meal. I believe that one has to respect the love and care with which food is made and served and not what is prepared. I would have been happy if he had mentioned that he was busy and he could not make it, I would have totally understood the situation. The derogatory statement kinda shook me. Peoples attitude towards food should change. Sumptuous and lavish food doesnt lie in mutton and chicken!!!
