I joined this page to share my story and make others aware of the dangers that parvovirus can cause if caught when pregnant. There i was happy being pregnant with my 1st child and had been quite sick in early stages sometimes 20 times a day! 😣 1st scan was fine, 2nd scan at 21 weeks wasnt straight forward. Started the scan i could see my baby kicking n moving around fine then the sonographer says id like a doc to have a 2nd look but wouldnt explain why. After an hour sat worryin in a room til a doctor was available every thought passed thru my head as what could be the problem. The doctor then explained while scannin me again that there was fluid around my babys kidney n heart 😔 not a gd sign. Was asked if id been ill n i couldny pinpoint any difference between my every day sickness to a normal bug etc. i was then referred bk for a scan few days later which still there was this fluid . After that i was referred to a specialist hospital with still no clue what was going on. A week had passed from the original scan n i was no further forward to knowing what was wrong the only comfort i had was being told it was a girl n i could feel her kick alot so i thought cant be that ill shes so active. My bloods came back n i had contracted parvovirus in the early stages of pregnancy, this is a harmless childhood virus also called slapcheek but to pregnant woman can be life threatening if passed to the unborn baby! So please if ur kid has this do not go near anyone pregnant or put them in school/nursery. I reckon looking bk i caught it 10/11 weeks preg as i rang hosp with a high temp n i felt extremely poorly so this mustve been the virus. Little did i know it could kill my baby inside me. So evert few days i was bk n forth an hour away to hospital to get a scan to check my babies development. Her body was slowly filling with fluid not blood she was becoming anaemic and her heart was failing! He fluid was really noticeable as when u see a scan pic the bodys grey but wheres theres fluid its black so it looked like she was hollow 😢 the doctors werent allowed to do anything until she was anaemic and her blood dropped below a certain amount as thats when a blood transfusion would be most affective. I asked the question could she not just be born anaemic to which i got the reply your baby wont be born 😢 heartbroken i left the hospital willing her to survive! Every kick every movement i cherished knowing it could be my last ! At 24 weeks i wad given the news she was anaemic and could get the transfusion. It is called an intra-uretal transfusion where they inject into her cord . I knew she was poorly she was barely moving 😓 i was awake for the procedure which i had 2 needles in my belly 1 was a camera n 1 was to get her blood to test wat type she was then to inject the cord. That day i was released n was due bk in a few days for a scan to see if it was a success. I can happily say it was 😁 she had started filling bk up with blood and had very little fluid and over the few weeks that followed she was completly fluid free 😁 i cant thank the special doctors enough for saving my beautiful daughter who is now 4. Please be aware that parvovirus can be fatal so such innocent babies 😔 She was born completly healthy and is now this cheeky wee girl ❤
