I joined today too. Gosh, I can give you a few names or I can take up all the page..so will start at the beginning... me... I was born not too far from the Mother Colony in IL My family settled in Ogle Co. instead of the traditional Stephenson Co., IL My maiden name is Meyer from Greetsiel, Pilsum and Eilsum. My maternal grandmothers maiden name was also Meyer from Visquard. As far as I can tell, they werent related. My maternal line is Groen and Remmers from Loppersum. Other names include Beer from Grimersumer Altendich, Bretting from Willen and tons of Janssens a few Bruns, Hayenga, DeVries, Rippentrops, Brasses, Wiltfangs, Engelkes to name a few. The closest I can get right now to family is near Jever in Heidemuhl and then Wilhelmshaven. We stay in contact. I have a lot of OSBs from the Krummhorn area. And, can do some simple lookups for right now but not a whole line. We are hoping to be moving soon and those boxes are packed. And, I have obituaries and a whole bunch of research material. I have also done ftDNA for Family Finder and needless to say, what DNA family I have found dont fit in anywhere. I tested 99% European and 1% Middle Eastern. My DNA matches are mainly in the Netherlands, one or two in Canada, Norway and Denmark so I must be of Viking decent ;-) I expected to see a whole set of names that would be familiar to me in my database not names I dont recognize.
