I just acquired a 21 year old greg/white mare who has a melanoma on her right upper eyelid, the vet that looked at it said that if he did anything that hed take the whole eye out because of not enough skin would be left. She has small bumps under her tail and it appears that her left lower eyelid has small little bumps. Has anyone had any experience with the quality of life a horse with these melanomas can have? She is in great shape otherwise, I just feel extremely bad for this mare as she is sweet, and Im trying to figure out what kind of future this horse might possibly have, and would breeding her be a crazy idea? Are these genetic, or can they come from being over exposed to the sun? I see all these beautiful horses on this site and Im just wondering realistically what can I do with this mare. If anyone has had first hand experience with this please give me advice, or guide me to find my answers to my questions...thank you, Sincerely, LeAnne Lovak
