I just bought these recently. Up until 3 weeks ago, I had only seen one other like them. They appear to be very old shells. The staves are less than an inch wide and vary in thickness. The two with gold stripes each has a wooden alma an inch down from the bearing edge. It appears that the fiberglass coat, pinstriping and chromed brass hardware were added later, perhaps in the 60s. They are very heavy drums. Much heavier than any of my other drums. All three appear to have been played...a lot. They arrived on Halloween. I unpackaged them in the street in front of the venue we were playing at that night. I played the 2 with intact heads. They sounded killer. Old bleached steer skins, I love them. Does anyone know who made these, or who played them? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
