I just cant enjoy watching crime dramas anymore, I have seen far too many episodes where the cops violate rights and break laws, and when they get caught, the message seems to be we could stop criminals if it werent for those stupid rights and laws protecting them!! Hell, in an episode of L&O, a suspect was about to go free and the prosecutor deliberately preyed upon the mans mental illness - paranoia - to force the man to plead guilty in a case he and his lawyer knew they were an hour from winning! And did anyone call him out on this? No, it was treated as an OK thing to do if it meant winning! Also, look how the people who protect us from police and prosecutorial misconduct are portrayed: Defense attourneys are portrayed as slimy weasels and the IAB are just a bunch of assholes who want to stop good cops from doing their jobs by stopping them from violating suspects rights! Almost every expert witness for the defense is shown as having some sort of corrupt agenda that makes their testimony lies and propaganda. In these shows, our rights and the laws that protect them are the #1 badguy the cops and prosecutors have to beat, and anyone who tries to protect us are just as bad as the supposed criminals.
