I just concluded nearly 20 minutes of agony listening to 60 - TopicsExpress

I just concluded nearly 20 minutes of agony listening to 60 Minutes reporting on Syria. The commentator started with a description to the UN food aid program generously financed by the US and others, the former bearing the lions share. Next was a description for the valiant efforts and the extraordinary risks taken by UN workers to deliver help to where it was most desperately needed in the middle of what was described as a war zone. So far so good. Humanitarian interventions are laudable and Syria can certainly use all the good will it can get, but....what follows was a description against the rise of the Syrian People -whatever that means nowadays- against Dictator Assad; the ruthless and relentless bombing of Damascus suburbs, Homs, Yarmouk; the deliberate starvation of entire neighborhoods by the ruthless regime... you got the idea. I expected to hear a word or two about ISIS, Al Nusra, even those fabled moderate rebels but there was none whatsoever. Absent from the narrative was the role of the malignant sanctions imposed on Syria right from the start, the foreign jihadists, the role of the GCC... nothing! It was a most simplistic narrative, comic book style, about a purely evil regime brutalizing its helpless people for the heck of it. To those charitable food donors I say that Syria was self-sufficient in food right until 2010; to 60 Minutes in particular and the rest of the free western media in general I say your are free but only to toe the line dictated by your policymakers; to the leaders of the civilized west I say leave Syria in peace, you have nothing to offer her but bombs and crocodile tears.
