I just experienced a very unusual but very cool situation. So, I drop Trevor and Connor off at school and then head out to the gym for my morning workout. As I am driving, I notice what appears to be a broke-down car with a young lady, who reminds me of my step daughter Shannon, walking away from it. I turn my truck around but she is already back inside her car. I pull up next to her, roll down my window, and ask her if everything is okay. I teasingly tell her that I could not leave a Packer fan stranded on the side of the road. (She was wearing a Clay Matthews Packer jersey, after all ). She giggles and admits that everything is ok but was reluctant and embarrassed to tell me why she was stopped on the side of the road. I tell her that I understand and I prepare to pull off with a smile. She then asks me if I would really like to know why she was stopped on the side of the road and I reply that I was curious. Heres her story. She starts by asking that I not view her as crazy. She is a collector and lover of Monarch butterflies. She was on her way to the local bank where she works and sees a Monarch butterfly in the middle of the road. The traffic was moderately busy and so she was concerned about how she was going to get to the center of the road safely so as to safely rescue the butterfly. She then asks me if I would assist her by walking with her to rescue the butterfly and, of course, with such a pure motivation, how could I deny. I stop a car with a hand gesture, and, sure enough, there is a monarch butterfly planted on the center yellow line in the middle of the road. She tenderly picks up the butterfly and we walk back to the side street. She then tells me that she REALLY loves butterflies and even raises them. She thanks me and before departing, she shows me a discreetly placed tattoo of a monarch butterfly on her foot with the caption Everything happens for a reason. As Karin and I are experiencing so many new and blessed changes in our families lives, it is very apropos to see a symbol of change, transformation, or new beginnings being rescued. We all need rescuing at times to help us on our way. Who will you help today to help get a new start? A properly and timely word or action can make a world of difference in a persons life. Be the love that someone needs for a new beginning! Everything happens for a reason.
