I just fell down a very strange popular music rabbit hole and need - TopicsExpress

I just fell down a very strange popular music rabbit hole and need everyones help. I think the only way out is to dig deeper. Lisa Cohen, I need you and Josh to help, especially. If you need convincing, just know that it has everything to do with my biometric ethnography of Maplewood spinning class, the glorious view from the top of Mt. Phil Collins, and, most centrally, involves this: https://youtube/watch?v=8fpjuoKhfJo. (And, needless to say, it also involves Kevin Bacon). Anyway, I was at the gym and decided to switch up my normal routine by typing 80s workout music into YouTube on my phone. The very first thing that came up was this playlist with Bonnie Tylers I Need a Hero at the top: https://youtube/watch?v=OBwS66EBUcY&index=1&list=PL5dFO2gBjYM87KTP7ZCn1OkEvOvM4jx24 -- mind you, I hadnt seen the breathtakingly larger-than-life, streetwise herculean, white knight music video at the time (which did blow my mind and will blow yours). So, my question, based on listening to this while the fire was in my blood, is how many musical clichés does this one song contain? I was just awestruck at the kitchen sink audacity the producer here has (Phil Specter eat your heart out). Despite the mainstream Pat Benatar rock style, I was struck by 1.) the choral writing which seems to be closely modeled on Irene Caras Fame, 2.) the synthesized arpeggios that seem to be borrowed from some synth pop (who does this first?), 3.) the Blondie-esque new-wavey melismatic vocal line towards the end, and most of all, 4.) the REALLY BAD horny horn line (more like Huey Lewis, I suppose) that comes from absolutely nowhere. Anyway, I wanted to know what other people hear in this remarkable catalog of 1980s musical clichés. I know there are a million. Okay, theres much more, but the real payoff is that the tune also reuses material from one of the songwriters own albums. And here it is: https://youtube/watch?v=J18ihQmr0d0. Absolutely made my day.
