I just finished cutting over 1,200 names from my newsletter - TopicsExpress

I just finished cutting over 1,200 names from my newsletter mailing list, and its entirely possible yours was one of them. If you want to be on the list, please click the button up there under the cover picture, or visit my website, johngilstrap. Why did I do this, you ask? Because I kinda had to. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a class offered by Constant Contact--the company I use for e-newsletters and mailing list management--and I found out that its no longer adequate to have an unsubscribe tab at the end of email mass-mailings. Instead, I need to either know the recipients personally, or they have to have opted-in via my website or some other means. (In Canada, its against the law to send an email without permission.) Well, Ive been doing this writing thing for 20 years now, and Ive only recently started using modern technology to manage my lists. Thus, I had a lot of names on the list that Id amassed over the years, but I have no idea now where many of them came from. Most came from fan letters, I suppose, but many were collected from business cards, book signings, and God knows how many other sources. I had to bid 1,200 of them goodbye. And it hurt. Now that Ive quit my Big Boy Job, I have lots of plans for that mailing list--stuff thats way more interesting than old-fashioned newsletters (although therell be some of those, too), so if you want to be a part of it, please do some clicking and adding. The one promise I make is that I wont send out anything that wont be worth opening.
