I just finished reading the revised manuscript for a biography of Major General Robert Ross, the daring British commander who won the Battle of Bladensburg and then captured Washington, D.C., 200 years ago. Its in pretty good shape, and I look forward to it joining the Campaigns and Commanders line. Now, I have to read a manuscript about African Americans in the Revolution. It is by a seasoned historian, and it stands out because the author unearthed enough sources to permit black Continentals to tell their own stories. Previous studies on the subject have relied too much on white testimony. An editors work is never done, but I would have it no other way. It is fun helping worthy books get into print.
