I just finished the book entitled, Monkey Bridge by Lan Cao. It is a narrative that articulates Vietnamese immigrants struggling to integrate and adjust to American life after leaving post-war Vietnam. Within this theme, is another which highlights the generation gap between the Vietnamese parents and their children, and how the paradigms were reverse as a result that the children were actually able to adjust a lot quicker than their counterparts. There were other themes such as the power of language and exile that were also pretty potent. Overall, it was a fascinating narrative. I am writing a research paper on how the United States could have better helped the Vietnamese community integrate more efficiently into American society. (I think that is what my research paper will centralize around; however, more research is required before I make a final decision.)
