I just finished watching American Sniper. Putting aside the excellent acting by Bradley Cooper and the good directing by Clint Eastwood the movie itself fails to bring in both sides of the war. I couldnt find one native Iraqi who didnt try to kill an American solider through out the movie. The movie itself portrayed the Iraqi people poorly and glorified the American Solider. You shouldnt praise someone or judge someone based on how many people they kill. It almost seems (and not surprising considering its Clint Eastwood) that the movie is all about God, Country, Family and protecting the American citizen(and it probably is considering Bradley Coopers character, Kyle, says it). One scene id like to point out in particular is when theyre on a covert mission to kill one of the top Al-Queda members. The whole time theyre having some playful talk with one of their soldiers who bought a ring for his girlfriend from some random savage in Iraq and he was going to tell his girlfriend that he got it from Zales (if she were to ask). When this kid is later shot in the face, but still alive, they retreat and decide to go back and go on a crusade of revenge. What ensues is almost disgusting. Its almost like a montage with rock music in the background as they drive by in convoys and brutalize any Iraqi with a gun. At one point they open fire on a truck full of soldiers and then run it over. To me its like this movie is trying to prove that we did go over there to protect our country and kill all of the savage Al-Queda solders.
