I just finished watching Episode 12 of Cosmos: A Space-Time - TopicsExpress

I just finished watching Episode 12 of Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey and found it disappointing. Most of the content of earlier episodes fit well into my own understanding of the cosmos and basic science. From the invisible forces of gravity and electromagnetism to the acceptance of the expanding universe theory and black holes, along with the profiles of the great minds who played such key roles in the march of human progress. This episode almost seemed as though it had been written by Al Gore. Along with Mr. Gore our host confidently assures us that the science is settled. This doesnt fit in with my understanding. And so far as I can tell, AGW remains a matter of scientific controversy. One thing that is, clearly, not controversial from the message in Episode 12, is that, unless we in the audience come to accept global tyranny, we will be the engineers of door number six in earths series of ELEs. The main message being that unless we do the right thing, I.E. adopt worldwide central planning, I.E. totalitarianism, the earth will fry just like Venus. In other words, the series pivots from a wondrous exploration of the scale of our cosmos into a political advertisement for global socialism. If the true agenda of this series was to sell us all on the idea of AGW then it was a very clever demonstration of the nostrum that a half truth is more effective than a bare faced lie. Or, maybe the idea of human liberty is truly utopian. A threat to evolution, even. Libertarians ought to understand the importance of this whole issue.
