I just finished watching a movie called, The Disputation. It is a dramatized version of Hyam Maccobys book, The Disputation, which presents the events surrounding the 1263 Barcelona Disputation (Debate) between Rabbi Moses ben Nachman (AKA Nachmanides) and a Jewish convert to Catholicism named Pablo Christiani. Maccoby is a historian and scholar of some note in the 20th century, and he has done a fine job of presenting his ideas in this book/movie. The script is largely based on the writings of Nachmanides, and presents the Jewish argument in an extremely favorable light, while making Christiani sound like a parrot, working with no real substance. Whether Nachmanides is purely objective, or not, is left for the viewer to decide. Right, wrong, or indifferent, the arguments and characterizations presented in the story are marvelous representations of the missionaries and anti-missionaries of our own time. I highly encourage everyone to view this video. Due to size constraints, the youtube version is broken into 5 pieces, each clip of approximately 10-15 minutes. Check it out, and see what you think.
