I just finished writing and addressing three checks for a little over a thousand dollars each to: The Gift of Life Family House, Gavins Trust Project through the Chester County Intermediate Unit and Gavins Playground Project through A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. This is all thanks to you, dear readers, who helped me celebrate Hopes first birthday in such a special (and meaningful) way!! The other day I received a lovely thank you note that meant the world to me. It was from a Mom Ive never met that was able to purchase a table and chair for her special needs son to use at home during therapy sessions. She was able to do this because of Gavins Trust Project. Below is a journal entry from June 2011. Gavin was four years old. Youll notice some things in the photos - an arm weight, lacing beads and a yellow ball. These were items that Gavins therapists brought to the house to use during his sessions. Over the years, therapists brought all kinds of different items to try with him! If I saw something that I liked, that Gavin responded to and that was successful in helping him - Id get it! We were fortunate that we were able to rush out and purchase these items to use at home. I am very aware that other families arent as fortunate - and therapists and teachers are working with limited resources. THIS is why I created Gavins Trust Project. If a family knows that theres an item that would really help their child at home, but they dont have the money to purchase it, Gavin can get it for them. Teachers dont have to continue to use a device held together by duct tape and a prayer - they can use money from Gavins Trust Project to replace it. Thank you for trusting me with your money since Gavin died! You have sent over $26,000 to me for Gavins Trust Project, which I have directly turned over to the Chester County Intermediate Unit. That money has helped furnish classrooms and purchase much needed items for families and therapists and removed stress from underfunded programs. It makes me feel so good that this heartwarming and beautiful project came out of something so tragic. I know Gavin would be so proud that his friends are being looked after by so many with such love. So, thank you - so much - for continuing to help me help others in Gavins memory.
