I just found out a friend of mine from high school passed. I wont try and inflate our relationship, it was casual at best and occasionally silly. For two years her locker, ironically (she wasnt quite 5 tall) was above mine. Our group all had their personal demons, and she was no exception, but her passing has opened up a Gulf of reflections of that time. We would share a word or two as I tried not to stare at her various attractive parts and would occasionally see each other out of bounds at the more usual stoner hang outs skipping class and of course the parties where I was always too shy to actually act. When I made my escape from El Paso I practically slammed the door on so many of those relationships which Im only now beginning to rediscover (the reasons can wait for another time, perhaps). Im flooded now with the memories of me, on my knees to get into my locker and her casually walking up, tousling my hair with a hey or under the stoner tree in the park as she reached for my big gulp and handed it back as if of course. Damn lady, I had hoped youd be one to make it.
