I just got RAKed by my 9 year old daughter, and I dont think she even realized how big a deal it was! Last year (and before that, even) I was a Mentor to a little girl at MCES. In April when I was scheduled to have my BIG surgery that has started this snowball effect of surgeries, I was so saddened to tell her (my mentee) that I was going to miss some time with her. Well, it turned out to be not so big a deal, because her familys house had been condemned and they were moving out of the county. She left Morgan County the same week of my surgery. Well, sitting here this morning, my phone rings and the caller ID says MCES. You, KNOW when you get that call at 11 am that your child is in the nurses office and usually means youre making an unscheduled trip to the school. On the other end of the line was my precious little Lilys voice saying, Mom, I need to tell you something. I was worried. J is back at school. I thought I saw her yesterday and I didnt want to tell you until I knew for sure. But, Mom, Its HER! What a kindness my little nine year old did for me! Just letting me know, that J is here and I can, once again, be a (hopefully) positive influence on this small lost child is paramount information to me! I love you Lily Reid! You have the most kind heart. I am so proud to be your Mommy and I am so proud of YOU! You knew what a big deal this is and your compassion astounds me.
