I just got a call from a supposed Ohio number and was told by a man with a thick accent (plus I was using wi-fi phone signal and it made him sound like Stephen Hawking) that because I pay my taxes on time, Im eligible for a $9,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human services. It sounded like BS pretty quickly, but I kept on with it to see what kind of info hed give me. He said I could get it cash via Western Union, or on a debit/credit card. I opted for the card, and he asked me for MY card info, which I told him wasnt an option and that I thought theyd send me their own card. The cash option required me to call a second number, verify a code theyd given me, and then go to Western Union where Id get my money within 45 minutes. I told him that I would take whichever option didnt require any up-front fees and he didnt address that. After getting off the phone I did a search for this kind of scam, and immediately found this: consumer.ftc.gov/blog/another-chapter-free-grant-fiction
