I just got a screenshot of a comment from an interview I did called, Boys Who Bead. Basically it said that the title of the series was offensive. Let me first say, I am not offended. In fact, I appreciate the exposure my path and work have received and feel honored to have the spotlight cast in my direction. Many thanks go out to Jennifer and Beading Daily for featuring me. I can understand that titles are sources of power for some people and that often times that empowerment has been struggled for and fought for. My feeling is that words have power, but you can give or not give them that power. I am reminded of a talk Christopher Rice had, where someone asked, Dont you hate being remembered as a gay author? He responded back by saying, No, it doesnt bother me. Being remembered at all as an author is hard enough. Gay or straight. I want to be remembered. I was that boy, who sat with his sisters around a coffee table rolling beads out of magazine pages cut into triangles - and part of me will always be that boy.
