I just got back from a 2 day trip to Alabama Hills, located just outside of Lone Pine California. Alabama Hills is very famous for being used as a backdrop in many movies, especially the old westerns. From Alabama Hills you can also see Mount Whitney. The first image is of the Mobius Arch during the early morning hours. You can see Lone Pine Peak in the left background and Mount Whitney in the right background. The second and third images are of Mount Whitneys first light at sunrise. Being the tallest peak in the lower 48, you can see why it gets lit up before everything else does. Its peak is at 14,505 feet. Definitely makes you feel pretty small in the scheme of things. The final 3 images were taken at approximately 2:00 in the morning. A very cold morning thats for sure. I wanted to capture the night sky with the Mobius Arch. What a perfect place to do that. It was pitch dark with almost no light pollution other than from the city of Lone Pine. It was only myself out there amongst the stars. I did hear an occasional owl hooting, which broke up the dead silence. You can see the winter view of the Milky Way in the images. By 4:00am I was finished shooting and also pretty much frozen, so I made my way back to the van to warm up for a bit. For the nighttime shots I used my Nikon D810 with the Nikon 14-24mm lens. The settings were f2.8 aperture, ISO of 4000, and an exposure time of 25-30 seconds. What a great place to visit if you have the chance. brentbremer #lonepine #mountwhitney #mobiusarch #milkyway
