I just got back from visiting with mom. When I arrived she was in the front lobby with some of her friends and I scooted a chair over to join the Queen and her court. After a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries, one of my moms friends looked over and said, Your mother is so lucky she has people who will come and visit her. My heart almost broke. Mom has been at her nursing home since July and there are people there who, to the best of my knowledge, has not received one single visitor in these past few months. If it can at anyway fit within your schedule, make time to visit a nursing home and just stop in and say Hi! to someone. Yes, I understand it will be a perfect stranger but thats okay, they dont know you, either. Theres no need to go back to their room, just sit with them in the lobby for just a few minutes. They are, most likely, living out the final days of their life in total solitude; your visit could be the one shining light in their life.
