I just got done listening to Obamas State of the Union speech. The first thing that comes to mind is that there is nothing in that black bag for me (quote Dorothy in Wizard of Oz). This speech was like a Mardi Gras where they throw the beads out to the audience, and you try to catch one if you can. He did more of the classic Democrat thing by promising goodies to the middle class. I would normally say how great that is. A lot of what he offered did not sound horrible. He mentioned free two years of junior college, lower taxes for working families, help with child care, paid sick and maternity leave, equal pay for women in work, overtime, higher minimum wage, lower mortgages, better unions, smaller student loan payments, helping vets with jobs and benefits, free and open internet, manned space exploration, tax the rich a little more by closing loopholes and upping capital gains tax, etc, etc. Isnt it funny how he offers all the goodies when he knows he does not have the kind of congress that will put bills like those on his desk? He did not act so generous when he had his party in the majority earlier in his presidency. One could say that he can feel free to say all this stuff to sound good but knows he does not have to deliver. He can play look how hard I tried and then blame the congress for not giving these. He may even take it one step further, he will play hero and protector by vetoing bad bills from the Republicans if they fall in to the Scrooge role. He can play off the Republicans to make him look like a hero and savior while they play villains. I hope they dont fall for it. Meanwhile there are some deadly things that will pass more than likely. He mentioned trade deals with Europe and Asia. This is a reference to the infamous TTIP and TTP. These are the deals that will end our sovereignty as a nation and put us under foreign laws (unconstitutional). I am sorry to say the Republicans are said to be FOR this. Perhaps this is why the Tea Party got elbowed out this election cycle. (I think we handed our sovereignty over a few years back, but this will bring it out into the open.) As far as foreign policy, his nose grew very long, so long that it went out the door of the capitol building. Everything is coming up roses, and we are winning the wars. LaLaLaLa TaDa TaDa TaDa! Even the NBC commentator, Richard Engel said none of that was true. As to our intelligence community, they got all the attacks. He repeated his desires to filet them over past actions and methods of surveillance. Perhaps no one noticed, but I am sure they did. His ideas on how to fight the war on terrorism were pretty warped or lame, and I am not surprised at that. The military people did not look happy. I suspect gridlock will be in the future. The Republican rebuttal indicated as much. The Republicans will go after things like Obamacare, and he will veto. No surprises there. Then there are those things he never mentioned. There was nothing about senior citizens or poor Americans. These people dont exist. Id say he mostly blew smoke at us, and there was very little that was actually real.
