I just got off the phone talking to my newly found paternal first - TopicsExpress

I just got off the phone talking to my newly found paternal first cousin. She told me that my father had other children, and so I have other paternal half siblings other than what my mom told me. There is no telling how many paternal siblings that I have out there. My father was very secretive man and he wasnt really in touch with his mothers family. Hopefully, my siblings will be interested in genetic testing and end up finding me through one of the sites like 23andme. I was told that that my maternal grandmothers May Alice Gaines mother Priscilla Cross father was white. He wasnt half white. Some people in the family said that he came from Ireland, but there hasnt been any proof about that. My cousin is open to the possibility that he could have had some French Canadian/Acadian after I talked to her what I found out about my fathers ancestry from genetic testing/matches. I know that there is Acadian/French Canadian on my fathers side because I I have a paternal match with a full Acadian (including MicMac mixture from Hache-Gallant and the younger Germain Doucet and the English ancestry of Priscilla Melanson) , and she has no roots in Louisiana. My full Acadian paternal DNA relative and I match other people on the same segments, and they have Acadian ancestry. Some of my matches are Cajuns. Some of my matches were born and raised in Canada. Some were born and raised in Northeastern USA like one of my DNA relatives was born in Maine. I know that Maine has a significant Acadian history. Many of my matches through the Acadian ancestry have also Quebecois French ancestry. They have ancestors that were of mixed Quebeois-Acadian lines. I have three 4th to 6th cousin AncestryDNA matches with French Canadian/Acadian ancestry. One of them has only French names with most of the names being names found among the Canadians. One of them only have roots in Maine and then goes back to Canada and then to France. After getting my mother tested, I found out that all of them are matches on my fathers side. I talked to my paternal first cousin about her mother/my aunt about doing genetic testing to help find out which side of my fathers side had the French Canadian/Acadian ancestry - his fathers side, his mothers side, or both. I believe that I have more than one 19th Century French Canadian/Acadian ancestor on my fathers side because I am noticing completely ancestors going back to the beginning of the 1800s. I know for sure that my mother has French Canadian/Acadian ancestry because she matches a certain person, her mother, and her 2nd maternal cousin. The 2nd maternal 2nd cousin is related to the other two through French Canadian ancestry. My moms DNA relatives Quebecois French ancestor has Acadian family lines. My mom even has AncestryDNA matches that French Canadian/Acadian including some Cajuns. Therefore, I have French Canadian/Acadian ancestry on both my parents sides, and there is a strong possibility that my parents are distant cousins to each other. I am very grateful to find my fathers family. My paternal first cousin is going to try to find information about my paternal grandfather Lawrence Nolan Scott Srs side of the family. I am pleased to know about my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines side of the family. I am hoping that my fathers Acadian ancestry will be sorted out by his maternal half sister/my aunt getting tested. This will also help my family to know about their ancestry. I am offering to pay for the test to get answers. I talked to my paternal cousin about it, and she is open to it. From all that I was told, I was better off not knowing my father. However, I wish that I knew Grandma Alice and the rest of the family.
