I just got off the phone with the MOST infuriating call with the INS. My god, how do people new to this country and trying to navigate this system EVER get through? Their stupid online appointment making system has given me a non-helpful you can not make an appointment at this time message, and after trying for a couple of days online to get two appointments set up, I finally called the help line. After talking for 10 minutes with one nice woman who couldnt explain why it couldnt make an appointment for one of my two kids, she thought Id been through enough grief and sent me up to have the call escalated. After 36 minutes on hold first the guy wouldnt talk to me, even though I have legal guardianship and am their legal representative (we argued about that with his response being, over the phone I dont know who you are - I said, well find, then I am Leon Johnson, can you prove that I am not?). Then I asked if he would just tell me more about the error message so I could resolve my problem, he said all I could do was keep trying. I asked if Id gotten to the right department, as it was supposed to be a HELP line. We went round and round, and finally he THREATENED me, for making fun of the federal government. REALLY?!! That was the wrong thing to say to ME. Got his name but he refused to tell me what dept he worked in. All he would say was the US INS and finally he said HOMELAND SECURITY. He ended up hanging up on me! No wonder people jump over or tunnel under our borders.
