I just got the news that my uncle Chet Schmidt went to be with our Lord this afternoon. The last few years were tough physically for him and involved a lot of pain. As a child growing up in Brazil (where my parents ran an orphanage) my mother would entertain us in the evening with stories of her own childhood. Many of the more outrageous starred her baby brother...Chet. My own childhood memories include going to night baseball games in San Jose where my uncle Chet played minor league ball for the San Jose Bees until he tore up his knees. The most important thing about him was his deep faith in God and Chet is now in His presence. Another reminder to live each day to its fullest and love the ones around us with all our hearts.
