I just had a completely unexpected, totally uncomfortable phone conversation with someone with whom Ive not had contact with in years, someone who I never knew in a terribly close way, someone who had stopped drinking and had made a conscious, heroic decision to turn their life around when I did know her 5-6 years ago. In this conversation, she was angry, incoherent and lost. Im not one for drama and, as boring as my life can be at times because of my rather conservative decision-making these days, I do virtually nothing to involve myself with people who behave like this. Still, I wish I could find out what happened, what went, obviously, very wrong with her. Shes a decent, courageous person who right now, to me, is a very sad, troubling reminder that no matter how well many of us think were getting, we are closer to the onset of our respective dormant illnesses than we think. Man, what a weird, weird bummer. I hope she ends up ok.
