I just had to share this account from Roland Pascoe about his experience of trying to get home from Birmingham on Saturday evening with only 35p in cash, a valid rail ticket and an empty bank balance: Travelling back from Birmingham I got as far as Ely.As we pulled in train for Norwich was on other platform.Carrying two bags and running like the clappers I was just coming up the under pass as the last train to Norwich pulled out. Resigned to spending the night there. Station gets locked up and everyone is thrown off the premises under the supervision of the police. Car park is only place to wait. No seats nothing so what else to do but curl up under an Oak tree and try to sleep. The night was dry but being near the river it got a bit dewy and foggy as the temp. drops. Next door Tesco offered two benches but of course they are too short to lay out on. Just padded around all night. I did approach a taxi driver and he wanted £130 to take me to Norwich. Dear reader I made my excuses and left. Or stayed where I was. Thank you dear Oak tree and Jonny Peters for the comforting phone call.
