I just have to vent a little bit...we went to a barrel race today in the pouring rain to watch one of Genes customers horse run. The pen was wet and sloppy and the first class we saw was the pee wee barrels. These little kids were running their horses in the slop and most had no helmet on and some even had Velcro holding them on the saddle! If the horse would have fallen on the wet ground, the kids would have been trapped under the horse, and then with no head protection yet! I know its not cool to run with a helmet, but dang, parents...who cares when its your childs head were talking about! Arms and legs can be fixed...heads are another story!! In my opinion, all these saddle clubs should make it mandatory for kids under a certain age to wear head protection but until they do, parents it is your responsibility to protect your children!!
