I just heard, on the CBS This Morning television show this morning, that Tom Brokaw will soon be receiving the Medal Of Freedom medal and award from President Obama (once The President returns back to D.C. from his current trip to Asia)! Congratulations, Tom! I cannot think of a better, nor a more appropriate, person to receive this award! I remember a little about Walter Conkrite when I was growing up! But when it comes to someone that I absolutely trust at an international / national level, Tom Brokaw is the first person that comes to mind for me! As the main anchor of the NBC Nightly News for years, I absolutely looked forward to his broadcasts and special documentaries - and Election Night Coverages! Never forgot when he was covering the fighting among several groups in Beirut, Lebanon! In the middle of his broadcast, a huge rocket just went over his head; hit a building; and made a huge noise. Then a huge fireball occurred, and the multi-story building relatively near him immediately collapsed. Tom stopped just momentarily, looked around; and then continued broadcasting . . . This is typical to what I have experienced since I have been here. But we will check into this latest bombing, and let you know what that was about. . .. He then continued to broadcast about other events in Beirut, and then in other places of the world, Amazing poise, given what had just happened, unexpectedly, very near to him! He also wrote a great book, and did a fantastic documentary for NBC TV, entitled The Greatest Generation , providing the story of the generation of World War II - before, during and after that war! Folks, as usual, thanks for your time! Love his voice, too! And Tom grew up in South Dakota! Folks, thanks for your time!
