I just hope that people still know what the denotative meaning of Oblation is... And no, its not naked men running about or a naked statue of a man that they mistake for liberal ideas and free-thinking. Its more sublime than that. An Oblation is a Sacrifice. Patterned to the Oblation of Christ on the Cross. Now, what are the similarities between Christ and the UP Oblation? Christ was stripped, lashed, beaten, crucified naked with outstretched arms with His Face to Heaven, lips parted while uttering a solemn prayer. The UP Oblation is stripped, burdened, naked with outstretched arms with its face to Heaven with lips parted while uttering a solemn prayer. Both are images of self-ascendancy and sacrifice under Heaven for His fellow man. If I were to put a dedication beneath the UP Oblation, Id put, Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) Now this is the true essence of what an Oblation means. Let us not forget it. And for those who doubt it, try to attend a Traditional Latin Mass and hear, see, and feel what a true Oblation is and if you are lucky, even hear the word uttered over and over again by the priest at the Altar. That is an oblation, no other connotative meaning could ever supress or abrogate that. Its not about losing our shame, but bearing shame even further to give the ultimate act of sacrifice of ones self as Christ did on the Cross. I believe that He was the ultimate pattern of the UP Oblation, no other, no lesser.
