I just mentioned to Dave Blinder (on another thread) about my train trip to NYC. I go in 3-5 a week on NJ Transit from Trenton, and, once we get thru Newark, I am always on alert to see what I see in the ponds of the Meadowlands. Often there are egrets and herons and cormorants and multiple species of ducks, and, last week, I was sure (I mean SURE) I saw an anhinga (!), but, since I cdnt ask the conductor to stop the train (well, that wd have gone over well..), I never posted on it (this is a meta-post so it doesnt count...). Of course, 99% of the other commuters never look, but this made me wonder -- are there others besides me here on the daily/weekly commute who take notice? I wd love to find out (spoiler alert: After 1/1, things will change and I will only be going in biweekly or so [I have been doing this for > 30 yrs]. But I still wonder...)
