I just met with part of the surgeon team. They explained that when they removed the tumor from the lining of the IVC they also had to remove the smooth lining of it which is what can help prevent clots from happening. So although they didnt expect this to happen he says hes not necessarily surprised. They started her on a blood thinner called heparin last night but they hope her body will do the rest to take care of it. They dont want to give her meds to break up the clot because its incredibly risky since the clot could get broken up and spread to her lungs or her brain and cause a stroke etc. Im not even letting my mind wander to the what ifs I just keep believing that her strong little body will take care of it. She is such a fighter! The surgeon team also explained that during surgery there is a chance that a tiny piece of tumor got left behind in her liver. The IVC goes through the liver and although they were confident they removed it all, there is no way to see for sure without completely removing her liver, almost like doing a liver transplant with her own liver (which would have been a very risky surgery for her at that time.) So right now we wait and watch her vitals, making sure nothing changes. If something happens suddenly they would need to give her the clot medicine TPA or do emergency surgery. I am confident that neither of those will need to happen! They are trying to ween her down from the breathingv machine again, but right now shes not really breathing over it like she should, so it will probably be another day until it comes out. Thank you for your continued support and prayers! ❤️
