I just moved away from Columbus, Ohio - and my favorite place in the world, Skylab Gallery - to attend grad school in Bloomington, Indiana. Almost three and a half years ago, I moved back to Columbus from Chicago, totally lost. Im so grateful that on return I was able to plug into a space thats one of the few things in my hometown that I feel unremittingly positive about. I feel immensely privileged to have been able to play a small part in sharing so many peoples projects. In the last three years Skylab hosted shows by Max Cabernet, Potty Mouth, Fleabite, Prince Rama, Sewn Leather, Goners, Katherine, Pictureplane, Ian F Svenonius, Slave Labia, Ritualz, Hop Along, Bad News, All Dogs, Malportado Kids, Tweens, JAPANTHER, FUNERALS, Forced Into Femininity, Russian Tsarlag, Foot Village, Penis Geyser, Calvin Johnson (musician), Ryan Jewell, Le Sphinxx, Blessure Grave, Providien, Shaver, Brad Griggs, Jocelyn Hach, STR0K3TH//K0K, Forma, Time and Temperature, Ulan Bator (band), DJ Detox, Ramzi, Dresden Dresses, Angels in America, Noah Britton, G Lucas Crane; Readings by Cindy Crabb, Chelsea Martin, Hannah Stephenson, Cristy Road, Cassandra Troyan, Michael Clune, Jordan Castro, Megan Boyle, Mallory Whitten, RY JE, Scott McClanahan, D Foy D. Foy, Danielle Gagliano, Steve Roggenbuck, Samantha Birthdae, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Wendy Lee Spacek, John M. Bennett, Camille Martin, Mel Burkeet, Natalie Shapero, Stacie Sells, Caitlin McGurk, Sam Pink, Lorian Long, Luis Bravo, Elizabeth Ellen, Mike Bushnell; Screenings by Mike Ohh, Lori Felker, Jesse Malmed, Bruce McClure, Acid Rain, Jerstin Crosby, Shane Mecklenburger, Alexis Gideon, McCrimmon McCrimmon, CJ Brazelton, Everything is Terrible, Roger Beebe, SUBLIME FREQUENCIES, Chase Whiteside, Liz Cambron, Brittany Ann Campbell, Bryan Boyce, Liam Michael Zeev OConnor; Exhibits by Aidan Koch, Justin Clifford Rhody, Jessica Langley, Lotta Mattila, Jenna Bee, Martin Hugo, Ben Quinn, DaNiro Elle Brown, Max Wheeler, Ben Bennett, Goddess, Kirt Hobler; Performances by Panoply Lab, Adam Rose, Future Death Toll, Leigh Lotocki, Paige Phillips & Abby Zbikowski, Ric Royer, Benjamin Michael Turk; And events with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, EASY, Make Waves, Blonde Art Books, POC Zine Project, LiNK: Liberty in North Korea, Heat Space, Alexis Bhagat. The events are why we exist, but Im most appreciative of having been able to work, live with, and learn from the awesome group of people in our weird building: Elijah Funk, Glenn Cox, Alix Ross, Evan Eisel, Jess Riley, AJ Fusco, Ania Urbanski, Tatyana Kagamas, April Kitchen, Maryn Jones, Jenna Hardesty, Nathan Snell, Joe Dwiggins, Paige Fruechnicht, Greg Ponchak, Shawn McBride, Joshua Crumbersnatch, Wes Flexner, Max Caldwell, Klamett, Michael OShaughnessy, John Also Bennett, Tyler Cooper, Josh Direen, Matthew Bush, tons of other people, and especially Jack Ramunni who made so much happen with his endless patience, ideas, hardwork, and list of talents, while somehow also being the best person to be around. I had, and have, no idea how to do half the things I need to do, and without Jack being there for 3 years, I would have been paralyzed on the simplest of tasks, like, How do PAs work? What is a hammer? Im also so thankful for all the freeks who came out to our events even when it was just some naked person from Brooklyn throwing themselves against a wall for a half hour. Without your presence and donations, we couldnt bring in touring performers, or really doing anything at all besides get on the Internet. Spaces like Skylab are what culture is about. And, personally, even when it sucked, it was where I wanted to be. Check it out going forward; the next show is Underpass & KT SPIT @ Skylab Gallery ~ and theres much more to come :~}
