I just pointed this out to someone, and I have to point it out to - TopicsExpress

I just pointed this out to someone, and I have to point it out to my friends, because most of you are musicians who have never encountered this: Since Ive started seeking a cast and crew for my film, I have been sought out and contacted by some of the nicest, most professional, most well put-together actors, actresses, and film crew people you can imagine. These actors / actresses have their head shots, resumes, and even demo reels and movie snippets all together as digital portfolios, telling me what films theyve been a part of, what other skills they have, etc. No one whos offered even wants money, except a couple people who offered special rates, and these people look like they really earn it with their skills. I dont even have to tell most of you what its like to deal with other musicians. Youve had time booked for a week, and they still show up two hours late without a call or text. When they finally stroll in, youre the one with the problem if you wanna know where theyve been, and they often seem to revel in knowing that someone had to wait on them. Then, when you finally try to show them how the song should go, what their part is, what your vision is, how you feel, anything at all, they say, Actually, I wanted to show you this thing I wrote...but we can do it after. Also, I think this song sucks. We need more covers. If this film works out, and everyone can be friends by the end, Im done with music for the most part. Im just gonna secure a little indie company name, like a label of sorts (or get on with someone else), and put my films, music, and literature out through that. Unless Im in someone elses band, or just producing someones material, Im not putting my effort into a thing that wastes my time and holds me back. With the right musicians, maybe Official 6Bit could have some more fun for a year or two as a music project, but this film project is way more exciting, fulfilling, and enjoyable so far than the band was at any point in its time before being beaten back into the grave. Its also gonna be better at keeping me clean and sober than the band was. Ugh...the amount of rotgut I consumed with those fiends. The distinct difference between the acting talent Im talking to and the musical talent Ive worked with in the past is this: no one involved or hoping to be involved with this film acts like they dont care. None of them seem to assume that they know more than me, or that their experience makes them better than me, and theyre very polite. Not quite as swarthy and mutinous as what Im used to. It makes me damn happy.
