I just read an article on Things You Should Ask/Say To Someone - TopicsExpress

I just read an article on Things You Should Ask/Say To Someone With a Chronic Illness. Let me just put some of the things on this list... 1. Instead of saying I will pray for you, say Id like to pray for you right now, if thats okay. 2. Ask them, What events in your life are changing and how are you coping with the changes? 3. Avoid having gifts be pity gifts. Just say, I saw these flowers and their cheerfulness reminded me of you. This article really made me think about how people see me as a person.I think people sometimes forget we are still human. We dont need to be talked to like robots, objects, or babies, & most of us dont want to be treated any different! Yes, we need certain things that other people dont... but being treated like we are so much different than everyone else isnt one of them. I am often talked to like I am 3 years old. It bothers me like no other, but I try to keep in mind that people are just ignorant. I just wish people knew that having a chronic illness doesnt mean our lives are over, and that we are suffering every second of everyday, wishing we didnt have it. Most of the time, its the total opposite. Most of us strive to live a long, fulfilled life. We enjoy the same things as anyone else. Like I said, we are still human. We may have more complications, and we may not be promised a super long life, but we are determined to make the time we are here worth every second!
