I just read that the cost of a Hershey Bar (and all Hersheys Chocolate) is going up by about 8%. So basically youll pay about .8c more a bar (they usually run you $1 unless you buy it at the movies. Then it will cost you your first born). I got to thinking about the cost of milk and wondered how much the price as gone up, say, like in the last 10 years. The cost of a gallon of milk today runs about $3.60. The only time it was higher was in the Summer of 2007. Do you remember what happened the Summer of 2007? No? Ask your parents. Better yet ask your parents 401K plans. Yikes. Anyhoo...if youre into the whole data thing like me youd like to see some handy graphs and charts showing how much the cost of staple items has gone up over time. Like for instance, the cost of a loaf of bread in 1940? ONE PENNY. Today? 320 PENNIES. (thats a 340% increase/White Bread) Have fun and discuss and when you share this with your kids feel free to throw in the occasional When I was your age.... line when the mood strikes you because you have actual data to back up your old person shtick! free-bullion-investment-guide/price-inflation.html
