I just read this so right on and very well put. Subject: Does The Hype Last? I listened to one of my competitor’s programs a couple of days ago and I have to tell you how inspiring the presentation was. Not only was it inspiring, I got excited about all the great “possibilities”. I sat with paper and pen and listened to the message that was being delivered. After about a 90-minute session, I realized I hadn’t taken any notes. I was, of course, listening to a competitor who was teaching a large group of Real Estate agents how to make a lot of money in this wonderful business of ours. After listening carefully, I realized that this was a wonderfully inspirational … motivational … type seminar that went on for several days. Everybody was jumping up and down and cheering, patting each other on the back and chanting out loud … but I kept looking for what they were teaching you as an agent that would specifically help you list and sell more property. Then, the real reality set in. I waited a couple of hours, went back and looked at my notepad, and realized that the entire seminar was all “hype”. Let’s be real with each other. Do we like the hype? Yes. Do we like the inspiration? Yes. But this particular program was talking about how to help agents have great breakthroughs in their businesses. My belief is, that hype and energy are important, but “knowing what to say and do” is a lot more important. If you want to have a breakthrough in your business, you better define, in detail, how to make that breakthrough happen, and after doing the work I’ve done for 38+ years, I can tell you it doesn’t happen with hype. Confidence comes from knowing what to say and knowing how to execute. As a friend of mine said … “Beware of the snake oil salesperson.” Mike Ferry Posted By Mike Ferry
