I just received a PM that really blessed me out for my previous post on grammar and the lack thereof on FB. You know what, Stacey, bite me! I am not going to apologize for the fact that I actually listened in all those English Composition classes I was required to take as a product of public schooling. Im not going to apologize for the fact that I dont hang up everything I actually learned in those classes because I have a new device with a keyboard. Im not going to apologize for the fact that, yeah, there is a difference between Lets go eat Grandpa and Lets go eat, Grandpa. About the time I was leaving education and venturing into the life of professional writer, there was a new approach to composition instruction that basically said, If the reader can understand what is written, the punctuation is sufficient. Ill refer you all to the previous Grandpa phrases and rest my case on that bit of inanity. Again, I am not ridiculously judging any posts on their punctuation or grammar and many, many times I have been amazed, delighted and moved by the beauty of the writing my FB friends produce. But, I am saying there is a dumbing down in this nation that appalls me and it runs the gamut from basic composition to historical knowledge to rudimentary civics. Oh, and just in case it got lost in my rant: Bite me, Stacey!
