I just received a snotty email from one of my customers. A guy who bought a £15000.00 car for £5000.00 but now expects it to be the same as a £15000.00 car...usual story. He is off travelling for a month or so and expects to return to find a new car for bugger all money even though I have explained numerous times that if you are not prepared to buy the best you can afford then you have to expect issues on a 30 year old car. Small things like an almost imperceptible surge and hunt on idle, paint touch ups on the car he claims are from when he bought it ( when he claimed he was very happy with the car) but have been picked up by parking in the middle of London all year.....that sort of shit. I was almost tempted to video todays impending confrontation.....but I fear Im going to be too pissed off to concentrate doing that too. The upshot is he is going to drop the car, bugger off, collect in a months time....before then the work I have agreed to will be done as will an emailed invoice for an engine rebuild, new gaskets all round to cure the hunt and surge, paint by the panel, complete re-connolising of the interior etc etc....I estimate a bill for about £8000.00. So just before he gets back he will have the option to opt out of doing the required work and accept that if he wasnt such a tight arse he should have bought a concours car to start with. When he does get back, he can pick the car up and piss off never to bother me again.
