I just received an unbelievably astonishing gift that has nearly left me speechless. For those who know me, thats a pretty big undertaking too! While going through my cluttered keepsake closet, I came across something that literally took my breath away. I had originally been searching for my parents set of lights they had kept from their very first Christmas tree together but found something even better! I came across a box full of old cassette tapes that my parents had recorded twenty years ago. It was all about their past such as how they met and what it was like when they were young. I thought this would be fun to play for my granddaughter when she comes down for the holidays. She would definitely get a kick hearing her great-grandparents describe what it was like in the 40s so I took them out. I just lost my mother this past February and hearing her sweet voice once again would be wonderful too. So, I opened the pink cassette tray my mother had tied up tightly with ribbon. Each tape had its own special labeling like how we met, Summer picnics at Breckenridge, etc. Then I saw one that said message to our daughter, Erin from her Mom with love! I was so taken back. I didnt know about this tape because I had simply packed them away to share with her grandchildren and great grandchildren someday. I had no clue she had made this tape for me or I would have listened to it sooner. I swiftly opened the tape and had to locate an old cassette player we had in the garage sale pile. I laid on the floor with a cup of coffee and pushed play. From the moment I heard her first word I was in tears. I had no idea how much I missed that womans soft voice until then. It was the most compelling moment I have ever had. As she spoke her words to me it was as though she was sitting right by me enjoying her own coffee with me. It was like we were having one of our deep conversations as usual. The most incredible thing about her words was that she was speaking as if it was right now, not 20 years ago! Her words were exactly what I needed to hear. I closed my eyes and as she spooked I nearly responded to her as if she were lying right by me. She reminded me of things we shared together like genealogy, the love of animals and nature. There was even a moment where she was outside recording and stopped talking for a second, then asked me if I could hear the crickets chirping. She gave me advice on what to expect when my children are all grown and no longer need you but still love you. Her best advice was to not worry when people you love walk out of my life for that is Gods way of preparing you for those who do care to have a clearer path to you. Needless to say I was a blubbering mess lying on the floor of my Jimmys study. Yet when the tape was finished I felt so happy! My mother was a unique woman to say the least, who had an amazing gift. She was blessed with the gift of ESP. Her gift was so strong people came from all across Texas to speak with her and she always used it to help others. I believe this was my mothers one last use of her special gift to give to me. She must have known that at this exact time in my life I would need her beautiful voice, encouragement and advice the most. So she captured it on a cassette tape just in case she wasnt around for me and God let her lead me to it. What an amazing Christmas Gift!!! Today I am filled with Joy, Love, Forgiveness and the Christmas spirit!! My Mom and I butt heads very often during her life but that was what made her...HER! Oh, how I would do anything to butt heads with her just....one....more....time.
