I just remembered something that Id like to share. The first and only time I think Ive ever started to think that I made a BIG mistake as a GM. Like, were going to have to talk out of character to fix this type of mistake. I might have to remove your characters if we dont fix this mistake. Ill keep this as spoiler free as possible. The party had just finished a fight in an abandoned town. All the enemies were dead but one, who had been color sprayed and tied up. The PCs go to interrogate her and find out that shes a member of the Shadow lodge. They ask the typical questions: Who are you? Who do you work for? Why are you doing this? etc. In a moment of inspiration, I launched into a long winded tirade about the Decemvirate and how they control some of the most powerful adventurers in the world while being incredibly influential. They were interlopers in almost every major political struggle, and had in their possession far too many powerful artifacts. During the speech I noticed that all 4 players were nodding their heads and saying yeah, that makes a lot of sense. In character as the shadow lodge agent, I offered for them to help out with the terrorist act they were supposed to investigate and prevent. All but one agreed to go along with it. This whole time Im thinking Oh, shit. I just turned an entire party of PCs evil. Im going to have to call the VC... Fortunately, one of the PCs grew a conscience at the last moment and stabbed the agent before she could corrupt her party any more. All in all it was a fantastic role playing experience and we had a lot of fun. Im just glad I didnt TPK with nothing but the words of a very influential terrorist.
