I just saw an advertisement for something called a Satsuma loan; its like a payday loan, but it can be repaid in segments over a longer period of time, making it easier to repay. The interest rate is 794%. How on earth are these things legal? Why are companies allowed to prey on the desperate and stupid? The easy answer is, of course, money. The larger, truer, answer centres around our cultures unspoken belief that the ability to turn a profit is evidence of personal virtue and proof of Gods grace.
