I just saw the movies, Sabotage, Bad Words and Noah! Ill start with the movie Sabotage! I feel really bad for giving this movie a bad review because Arnold Schwarzenegger actually played a really good part in this movie, it was actually one of his better performances, but unfortunately this movie Sabotage just sucked. David Ayer directed this film and ever since he did the movie End of Watch Ive been looking forward to seeing what he was going to do next. Who wouldve thought that the guy who wrote Training Day and directed End of Watch would make a movie this terrible! I saw the previews and this movie didnt look great, but it looked entertaining and honestly thats all this movie had to do is just entertain me, even if it was mindless entertainment, its still entertainment. Sure Ive complained a bunch of times that mindless entertainment is ridicules, but mindless entertainment is still better than no entertainment at all and thats what I got from this movie Sabotage. I can see David Ayer at times was trying to make this movie realistic and even dark at times, but since the script was so sloppy and the characters were so unlikeable it just didnt work out that way. This film was written by Skip Woods, whos written other terrible action movies, like Hitman, X-Men Origins - Wolverine and A Good Day to Die Hard. The reason why Skip Woods is such a bad writer is because he has no idea how to write interesting characters because pretty much all the characters he writes in his movies are either bland or unlikeable. He also writes a lot of cheesy dialogue in his movies and he always tries to make his movies dark, but they always end up being goofy and over the top. Thankfully this movie did have David Ayer in the directing chair; sure he couldnt save the movie from sucking, but he did save the movie from being a total train wreck. Arnold Schwarzenegger also saved this movie from being a train wreck because his performance in this movie was really well done. His character in the film was a poorly written character and if anyone else wouldve played this character it wouldve been terrible to watch, but thanks to Arnolds compelling performance he made the character work. I know Arnold Schwarzenegger is not the greatest actor out there, but he can still act and this movie proves that. Now as for the supporting cast members, they were all terrible! Sam Worthington was terrible, Terrence Howard was terrible, Josh Holloway was terrible, Joe Manganiello was terrible and Mireille Enos probably gave the worst performance out of every body. All of them played such unlikeable characters and there was no chemistry between any of them. You see this is a movie about a DEA task force, so I was expecting a good team that has good chemistry with each other, like the team from Predator, but instead this team was filled with boring and unlikeable people. Like I said, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the only actor that did a good job and he was the only character in the film that I gave a shit about. Now what about the action? This movie is an action film, so it had to have some good action in it right? Well... sort of, I guess! The action in this movie was fine and people who love bloody violence will probably get a kick out of it, but for me I wasnt into it. Im not against bloody violence because I like a lot of movies that have a lot of gore and violence, but in those movies I like the gore and violence because it makes sense. You see in this movie the bloody violence doesnt really make sense because they just put graphic violence in it just to have graphic violence. You use graphic violence to help show realism in a movie, or you use it to make the movie more thrilling, or you use it to make the movie more creative. In this movie they used so much blood and guts throughout the whole damn thing that it just seemed unnecessary. I felt like they wanted the movie to look cool, so they just put a lot of violent action scenes in it and I guess they prayed people would lose site of the fact that this movie is just pointless. Sabotage is a messy, uncreative action movie that I wished was directed by another director. I still enjoy David Ayer and I still enjoy Arnold Schwarzenegger and as painful as this movie was to watch Im still a fan of them. Ill give this movie a 3 out of 10. Next is the movie, Bad Words! The directorial debut for Jason Bateman and its also a comedy movie that stars Jason Bateman. Okay I know Jason Bateman has done a lot of crappy movies, especially lately, but Im still a fan of his because I like his kind of humor and I enjoy his acting at times. Yes when I watch movies, like The Change-Up, The Ex, Couples Retreat, The Switch and Identity Thief I find it very annoying that Jason Bateman chose to be in those shitty movies, but then when I watch movies, like Juno, Up in the Air, Paul and Horrible Bosses that shows me that Jason Bateman is still funny. What really made Jason Bateman funny was his TV show, Arrested Development, which made most people a fan of his comedy. I loved the show Arrested Development and I think Jason Bateman is awesome in that show and I always hope someday he will be in a movie thats just as funny as the show Arrested Development. Now that brings me to this review of his new movie, which was a movie that looked really stupid, but ended up actually being pretty darn funny. This movie, Bad Words has a lot of raunchy comedy and I can tell Jason Bateman wanted to make this movie funny just like the show Arrested Development and unfortunately this movie doesnt do that, but as a funny movie I think this movie did an okay job. For his first time directing a film I think Jason Bateman did a pretty job, he didnt make any amateur mistakes and he actually paced the film really well. This movie isnt really compelling or very artistic, its just a movie that wants to get a few laughs out of you and it really succeeds at that. The jokes basically all come from Jason Bateman; he pretty much made the entire movie by playing this really unlikeable guy, whos entered himself in a national spelling bee. I thought a movie like this would have a lot of gross out humor and very juvenile jokes, which it kind of did, but surprisingly they kind of worked for this movie. I usually hate that kind of humor; I enjoy raunchy humor, but not nasty and immature humor. This movie never goes too gross or too silly, it finds a middle ground. I think the film itself has a lot of flaws to it and I think the film relied way too much on Jason Bateman for the jokes because I wouldve loved to see other characters make me laugh, but that didnt happen. I didnt even find the performances in this movie very good other than Jason Batemans performance, but I guess for what this movie was its still pretty good. The jokes really worked, Jason Bateman was very good in the movie and his direction was really good as well. I say if youre into raunchy comedies then give the movie Bad Words a watch, but if youre looking for something more artistic and creative, then you wont get much from this movie. I got to say though, for a comedy it couldve been much worse, so if you like comedies give this movie a watch. Ill give it a 7 out of 10. Next is the movie, Noah! Everyone can admit that writer/director Darren Aronofsky has a unique style when it comes to his films and some people love his style and some people can take it or leave it. Ive only seen four of Darren Aronofskys movies including this movie Noah and I can say that I find his style pretty cool. Sure I wasnt a fan of the movie The Fountain, but I really enjoyed the movie The Wrestler and I enjoyed this movie Noah as well. Darren Aronofsky gave this film a lot of style visually and structurally and I think he did a great job. I know so many people will hate on this movie because the film isnt totally accurate, but when you really watch the previews for this movie I think you can kind of tell that already. As much as this movie wasnt fully accurate I still enjoyed the story for what it was and I thought it had really good writing and direction from Darren Aronofsky. The performances in this movie were all done very well, which was a huge plus because when you have a story like this you need some really good actors to make the movie more captivating. Russell Crowe plays the lead role Noah and he does a very good job in the movie. I know Russell Crowe has been choosing the wrong movies lately, but Im glad he chose this one because this was a good choice. Anthony Hopkins was also in this movie and he was great as always, same with Ray Winstone. Jennifer Connelly was probably the weaker role in the movie, like I said in my review of Winters Tale, Jennifer Connelly hasnt really played a good part in a movie in a while. I thought she wouldve done great in her role, but she wasnt that good. Surprisingly though, Logan Lerman was good in his role, same with Emma Watson. Pretty much the entire cast did a great job in this movie other than Jennifer Connelly. I think at times this movie does get a tad boring, but thanks to its strong performances by its cast and great direction by Darren Aronofsky, I would definitely recommend this movie to people. Visually its great to look at and story wise, I found it to be very interesting. Again, I know so many people will hate this movie, but for what it was I thought this movie was pretty good. Ill give it an 8 out of 10.
